Olympics 2020 Tokyo

The Olympic game is a multi-sport event. From across the world, thousands of athletes participate in various competitions. The Olympic Games are considered the world’s top-tier sports championship with more than 200 nations participating. The Olympic Games are held every four years between the Summer and Winter Olympics.

This year, the capital of Japan, Tokyo had hosted this international sports event where 205 countries had participated with more than 11,000 athletes. It was started on 23rd July 2021 and closed on 8th August 2021. The United States of America grabbed the number 1 position with a total of 113 medals. The people’s Republic of China on number 2 with 88 medals and Japan on number 3 with 58 medals.

It is a proud moment for India too for holding 33 positions with 7 medals, one gold, two silver, four bronze. The journey started on day one of the Olympics 2020 with Mirabai Chanu winning the bronze medal in women’s 49 kg weightlifting. PV Sindhu won the second bronze medal with a 21-13, 21-15 win against HE Bing Jiao of the People’s Republic of China in women’s single’s badminton.

Lovlina Borgohain

23-year-old welterweight boxer. Lovlina has marked her presence by defeating 2018 world champion Chen Nien-Chin in the quarterfinals. She prevailed 4-1 on points against the pugilist from Chinese Taipei and earned a bronze medal for India.

An unforgettable moment for India where the Indian Men’s Hockey team broke the 41-year medal accurse. After a long-awaited wait, India again marked its occupancy by fetching a bronze medal.

Ravi Kumar Dahiya, the 23-year-old wrestler reached the final of the 57kg freestyle wrestling event. Ravi Kumar has become one of the sixth athletes in India’s sporting history to achieve a silver medal at the Olympics.

Bajrang, a three-time Worlds medallist gave India a memorable moment. Bajrang won bronze in men’s 65 kg wrestling. Bajrang is the first Indian wrestler to gain medals in both Olympics and the World championships.

With the seventh medal, India is in seventh heaven as Neeraj Chopra won the Gold medal in the Javelin throw. Neeraj Chopra is the first athlete from Independent India to win a medal in a track and field event.

The closing ceremony for the Tokyo 2020 Games took place on 8 August 2021 in the Olympic stadium in Tokyo. The ceremony proceeded under strict anti-coronavirus conditions. Wrestler Bajrang Punia led the Indian contingent out during the parade of athletes during the closing ceremony of Tokyo 2020.
